What We’re Doing Around The World
India Well Project
COUNTRY: India
OVERVIEW: India is a country of great diversity, with a population of more than one billion people living in an area slightly larger than one-third the size of the United States. In spite of India’s rapidly growing economy and high-tech work force, many of its rural people still struggle with poverty. India faces the challenges of growing demand and industrial run-off and poor sanitation in its efforts to provide safe, uncontaminated water for its people. According to the WHO, 900,000 people die each year in India from water related illness. Thirst Relief utilizes clean water wells in India because of the technology and massive population. These wells allow us to provide a large amount of people with clean water in each project location.
IMPACT: Per Well: 2000+ Lives
PROJECT COST: As low as $1000 Per Well
OUR PARTNER: SWAP Trust India
WATER METHOD USED: Bore Wells, Stand Taps, WASH Programs
Tanzania Filter Project
COUNTRY: Tanzania
OVERVIEW: 15 million people in Tanzania live off of less than $1 a day. Most people living there die before they reach 50 years old. A huge part of the population is forced to use contaminated rivers as a water source, leading to a massive amount of water-borne disease. Our partners in Tanzania are distributing BioSand filters to affected villages every month to attempt to meet the need for clean water.
IMPACT: Per Filter: 10+ Lives
PROJECT COST: $100 Per Filter
OUR PARTNER: SON International
WATER METHOD USED: BioSand Filters
Uganda Filter Project
COUNTRY: Uganda
OVERVIEW: Uganda is rebuilding after two decades of civil war, when more than 1.6 million people were internally displaced (80% of which were women and children). Many of the population still reside in refugee camps because of this displacement. Most of our water projects are implemented within these refugee camps. Thirst Relief’s ground partner’s involvement in Uganda encompasses a broad range of services from farming, sanitation and efficient living education to water project implementation.
IMPACT: Per Filter: 10+ Lives
PROJECT COST: $100 Per Filter

WATER METHOD USED: BioSand Filters, CARC Buildings
Brazil Filter Project
COUNTRY: Brazil
OVERVIEW: Thirst Relief’s ground partners in Brazil, Xingu Mission, work closely with the indigenous peoples that live along the Amazon river and/or basin. There is no lack of water on the Amazon; however, the water is filled with a deadly combination of viruses, bacteria and parasites.
